St. Bernard River Pirate Loot

Lost Treasure TX • Brazoria County County
Description
Brazoria County legend of $10,000,000 in pirate loot buried near the St. Bernard River — a coastal stream south of Houston flowing into San Antonio Bay.
Historical Notes
The St. Bernard River drains Brazoria and western Galveston County into San Antonio Bay east of Matagorda Bay. Lafitte-era pirates and later Gulf smugglers used the maze of coastal rivers to move goods away from naval patrols. The Rocker Box Brazoria County list cites guidebook tradition of ten million dollars in pirate treasure near the St. Bernard. The figure is almost certainly folkloric inflation, but the river's swamp mouths and oak mottes match classic cache geography. Coordinates approximate the lower St. Bernard River near the San Antonio Bay mouth, within day-trip range of south Houston.
