St. Albans was a major railroad and stage hub on the route north to Montreal in Franklin County. Compiled guides place roughly one hundred twenty thousand dollars in gold coins along the St. Albans–Montreal Road corridor. The tale pairs with Confederate stolen-money lore near Highgate Springs on the same northern border.
