Spanish Silver Cache — Leander

Lost Treasure TX • Williamson County County
Description
1920s newspaper account of a Spanish pack train burying 40 jack-loads of silver near present-day Leander while fleeing Comanche attackers — one of many Hill Country Spanish mine and bullion legends.
Historical Notes
An Austin American story from the early 1920s described an ancient Spanish document about a mine near Burnet. A pack train of 40 burro loads of silver was pursued by Comanches; the drivers allegedly buried the silver near where Leander now stands. No cache has been confirmed. The same region produced unrelated gemstone finds (e.g., a 15-karat ruby arrowhead reported by treasure hunter W.E. Snavely of Taylor in 1925). Coordinates approximate Leander in Williamson County. Urban growth has altered the landscape since the legend was first published.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
