Spanish Gold Silver Espinore Island

Lost Treasure MI • Chippewa County County
Description
Espinore Island legend of Spanish gold and silver buried in the St. Marys River — a colonial fur-trade hoard in Chippewa County.
Historical Notes
Espinore Island lies in the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie in Chippewa County. Compiled Great Lakes guides credit Spanish traders with concealing gold and silver on or near the island. The tradition pairs with British General Monk's chest on the same island in eastern Upper Peninsula lore.
