Sisterdale Pedernales Pioneer Specie — Gillespie County

Lost Treasure TX • Gillespie County County
Description
Sisterdale legend of a pioneer specie cache along the Pedernales River — the 1847 German free-thinker settlement south of Fredericksburg.
Historical Notes
Sisterdale was founded in 1847 by German intellectuals and free-thinkers on the Pedernales River south of Fredericksburg. The community became a center of Hill Country culture, viticulture, and intellectual society in antebellum Gillespie County. German-settler strongbox folklore often places specie along Pedernales bottomland where remote vineyards and mills handled cash before county-seat banking matured. Sisterdale lies between Luckenbach and the Blanco County line. Coordinates mark Sisterdale on Farm Road 1376 in southern Gillespie County.
