Silver Creek — Llano County Placer Gold

Gold Mining Site TX • Llano County County
Description
Silver Creek near the Oxford quad Los Almagres district southwest of Packsaddle Mountain. Named creek in iron-oxide silver-country where hobby panners also find fine Llano Uplift placer gold.
Historical Notes
Silver Creek lies on the Oxford USGS topo sheet near Legion Creek, Riley Creek, and the Riley Mountains — the same Llano County upland where Spanish miners sought Los Almagres silver and where Anglo prospectors later chased Jim Bowie mine legends. The creek name reflects regional silver folklore; APMEX and BEG materials list the greater Llano River / Honey Creek country among Texas recreational gold locations. Gold is fine-grained and widely dispersed in gravel bars. Coordinates from USGS feature data on the Oxford quadrangle. Private property throughout the Honey Creek drainage.
