Historical Notes
Silsbee developed as a lumber and rail town on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe line northwest of Beaumont. Hardin County's pine forests fed the Golden Triangle sawmills and paper mills that followed Spindletop. Mill-town payroll caches mirror Beaumont oil-boom and Orange shipyard traditions. Hardin County sits between the Big Thicket preserve and the Neches River valley. Coordinates mark Silsbee in northern Hardin County northwest of Beaumont.
