Hardin County's pine forests fed the Golden Triangle sawmills and paper mills that followed Spindletop. Mill-town payroll caches mirror Beaumont oil-boom and Orange shipyard traditions. Hardin County sits between the Big Thicket preserve and the Neches River valley. Coordinates mark Silsbee in northern Hardin County northwest of Beaumont.
