Ghost town of Sheridan legend of $3,000 in stolen gold dust buried on or near the short-lived camp southwest of Rapid City in the central Black Hills.
Historical Notes
Pennington County lost-treasure lists place three thousand dollars in stolen dust around the Sheridan townsite without naming a single holdup. Sheridan was among the boom camps that rose and vanished during the 1876–1878 quartz rush west of Pactola country. Coordinates mark the historic Sheridan townsite in the hills south of the Pactola Reservoir basin.
