Description
Methodist camp meeting ground south of Burnet; fall 1855 gathering was among the earliest large religious assemblies in the county.
Historical Notes
The Handbook of Texas notes one of the first camp meetings in Burnet County was held by Methodists at Sand Springs in the fall of 1855. Brush-arbor and campground religion preceded permanent church buildings across the Hill Country; itinerant ministers served scattered ranch families until district churches were organized.
