Sand Point Lafitte Million — Matagorda Bay

Lost Treasure TX • Calhoun County County
Description
Matagorda Bay legend that Jean Lafitte buried roughly $1,000,000 in treasure on or near Sand Point in Calhoun County — a low cape on the bay southwest of Victoria.
Historical Notes
Sand Point lies on the Calhoun County shore of Matagorda Bay, west of Port O'Connor and the Indianola ghost town. Lafitte-era smugglers used the bay's shallow passes to move contraband between Galveston and Mexico. The Rocker Box Calhoun County list attributes a million-dollar Lafitte hoard to Sand Point. Gulf Coast folklore often inflates figures, but the geography matches documented pirate and privateer traffic in the 1810s–1820s. Coordinates approximate Sand Point on Matagorda Bay. Respect coastal private property and wildlife areas.
