A TreasureNet thread documents Spanish symbol carvings, a crude rock-map, and a Spanish coin found in a canyon west of San Jon along the Caprock south of Interstate 40. Searchers believed the map pointed to tools buried near a larger cache higher on the canyon wall. A 2024 reply states a great-grandfather lived in a San Jon dugout in 1907–1908 and spent the entire period searching for a lost treasure he supposedly knew about — family tradition attributing the hoard to Black Jack Ketchum.
