Historical Notes
The Rocker Box McMullen County page states that two cowhide sacks of doubloons are said to be buried on San Caja Mountain. Related entries on the same landmark describe a cave with Mexican outlaw loot and nine burro loads of silver bullion. McMullen County lies southeast of La Salle County in the Nueces River basin. Spanish doubloon sacks and outlaw caves are recurring themes in Guide to Treasure in Texas for the brush country between the Rio Grande and the Coastal Bend. Coordinates approximate San Caja Mountain in McMullen County southeast of Cotulla.
