San Angelo Stagecoach Robbery Cave

Lost Treasure TX • Tom Green County County
Description
Tom Green County folklore of a cave near San Angelo holding the proceeds of a 19th-century stagecoach robbery — one of the few published lost-treasure entries specific to the Concho Valley.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Tom Green County compilation cites guidebook lore that a cave near San Angelo contains loot from a stage robbery. Butterfield Overland Mail and later stage lines crossed the Concho Valley between forts and cattle markets. San Angelo developed as a trading center after Fort Concho was established in 1867. Stage and mail routes along the Concho River were natural targets for holdups in Reconstruction-era West Texas. No authenticated recovery. Specific cave location is unpublished in available sources. Coordinates approximate the San Angelo / North Concho River bluff country north of downtown.
