Sam Bass Buried Loot — Chalk Hill

Lost Treasure TX • Dallas County County
Description
Legend that Sam Bass and his gang buried robbery loot near Chalk Hill west of downtown Dallas — one of three Dallas County caches cited in regional treasure guides.
Historical Notes
Chalk Hill rises in West Dallas and Oak Cliff above the Trinity River floodplain. Compiled Dallas County treasure lists credit the Sam Bass Gang with hiding train- and stage-robbery proceeds in the Chalk Hill countryside outside the young city. Sam Bass operated across North Texas in 1877–1878 after his $60,000 Big Springs, Nebraska train robbery. Dallas County legends place multiple unrecovered caches before his fatal July 1878 shootout in Round Rock. Urban growth and the Chalk Hill trail corridor have altered the landscape since the 1870s. No authenticated recovery. Respect private property.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
