Sabinal Lost Quicksilver Lode — Uvalde County

Lost Treasure TX • Uvalde County County
Description
Uvalde County legend of a quicksilver source north of Sabinal found by Texas Rangers but never relocated years later.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Uvalde County compilation describes a source of quicksilver located by Texas Rangers north of Sabinal; when they returned years later they could not relocate it. Cinnabar (mercury ore) occurs in the Texas Hill Country and was mined commercially at places like Terlingua, feeding lost-lode tales elsewhere. Related entry: "Sabinal Lost Lead Mine — Uvalde County" documents a separate lead-mine variant in the same corridor. Quicksilver folklore often pairs with Spanish silver traditions in South Texas guidebooks. Coordinates approximate the Sabinal River hills north of Sabinal in Uvalde County.
