Round Mountain Birdtown Pioneer Strongbox — Blanco County

Lost Treasure TX • Blanco County County
Description
Round Mountain legend of a pioneer strongbox at Birdtown — the 1854 settlement Joseph Bird founded in northern Blanco County before Johnson City existed.
Historical Notes
Joseph Bird established Birdtown, now known as Round Mountain, in 1854 in the northern part of Blanco County. James Hughes Callahan and Eli Clemens Hinds built the first permanent homes on the Blanco River that same year, among the earliest Anglo settlers in the county. Northern Blanco County pioneer-cache folklore places settler specie along the Pedernales headwaters and upland divides where Comanche raids threatened remote ranch households. Round Mountain lies north of Johnson City on the Austin–Fredericksburg corridor. Coordinates mark Round Mountain in northern Blanco County.
