Description
Historic East Austin park established in 1929 as a segregated recreation area for African American residents during the Jim Crow era.
Historical Notes
Austin's 1928 city plan directed Black residents to East Austin and provided Rosewood as a dedicated park. The Rosewood Recreation Center (1948) and ball fields served the Rosewood neighborhood for generations. Today Rosewood Park honors East Austin community history; adjacent Boggy Creek Greenbelt extends the park corridor.
