Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Starr County compilation states Pancho Villa supposedly buried $1,500,000 near Roma. Roma was a historic riverboat and border-trade town overlooking the Rio Grande; its plaza district is a National Historic Landmark. Related entry: "San Ygnacio Pancho Villa Chapel Silver — Zapata County" documents an upstream chapel variant. Villa raid folklore is common along the border but no authenticated hoard has been recovered at Roma. Coordinates mark Roma on the Rio Grande in Starr County downstream from Laredo.
