Roma Mexican Gold and Silver Coins — Starr County

Lost Treasure TX • Starr County County
Description
Roma legend of Mexican gold and silver coins buried near the Rio Grande bluffs — a colonial trade variant separate from the Pancho Villa million-dollar tale.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Starr County page lists Mexican gold and silver coins buried near Roma as a distinct entry from the Pancho Villa cache. Roma served as a steamboat landing and customs point when river trade connected Laredo to the Gulf. Border coin hoards appear in guidebooks as contraband from colonial Mexico, riverboat commerce, and Revolution-era flight. The Roma–Ciudad Miguel Alemán crossing remains an active international bridge. Coordinates mark the Roma bluff district in Starr County on the Rio Grande.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
