Rock Pens Thirty-One Burro Gold Ore — La Salle County

Lost Treasure TX • La Salle County County
Description
Rock Pens legend of thirty-one burro loads of gold ore buried in the brush country west of Tilden — a cache that regional guidebooks place in McMullen or La Salle County.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box McMullen County compilation states that thirty-one burro loads of gold ore are said to be buried somewhere in the Rock Pens west of Tilden, and notes the cache may also be in La Salle County. McMullen County borders La Salle on the east; Tilden is the McMullen County seat. Burro-load ore caches appear in Guide to Treasure in Texas, Buried Treasures of Texas, and J. Frank Dobie's Coronado's Children for the South Texas brush country. No commercial gold production is documented in either county. Coordinates approximate the Rock Pens area on the La Salle–McMullen county line east of Cotulla.
