Robbers Roost Outlaw Treasure Cache

Lost Treasure UT • Wayne County County
Description
Southeastern Utah outlaw-legend of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch hiding Castle Gate payroll gold and other robbery loot in slot canyons and caves near Robbers Roost — the gang's remote sanctuary along the Outlaw Trail.
Historical Notes
Robbers Roost lies in rugged canyon country roughly fifty miles east of Hanksville, crisscrossed with hiding places favored by the Wild Bunch. After the 1897 Castle Gate robbery, pursuers lost the outlaws heading toward this red-rock maze; folklore holds multiple caches were deposited here over years of holdups. Capitol Reef Country and OldWest.org compile the tale as Utah's signature outlaw stash legend.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
