Description
1865 Bannock County legend of 300 pounds of stagecoach gold buried about three-quarters of a mile north of McCammon at Robber's Roost — robbers were killed by a posse before revealing the cache.
Historical Notes
Legends of America records a violent 1865 holdup in which bandits cached roughly 300 pounds of gold before fleeing toward Robber's Roost north of McCammon. The posse overtook and killed the robbers in a gunfight, but the stolen gold was never recovered. The site sits along the historic Portneuf corridor between Pocatello and the Utah line — a recurring Idaho treasure-hunting landmark.
