Reno Gang Seymour Train Robbery Cache

Lost Treasure IN • Jackson County County
Description
1868 Jackson County legend that the Reno brothers hid $80,000 from a train robbery near Seymour before fleeing to Canada with a posse in pursuit — credited as America's first train robbery syndicate.
Historical Notes
The Reno Gang of Rockford robbed Adams Express and county treasuries across Indiana and Missouri in the 1860s, stealing nearly half a million dollars in two years. Before fleeing north in 1868, folklore says the brothers buried $80,000 from one holdup near their Seymour home base. The Jackson County Vigilance Committee lynched several gang members that July; Frank Reno escaped to Canada but the cached loot was never reported found.
