Railroad Bill Loot — Atmore Corridor

Lost Treasure AL • Escambia County County
Description
Folklore of outlaw Railroad Bill (Morris Slater) hiding stolen train-robbery loot in the pine woods between Atmore and Bay Minette before his 1896 death.
Historical Notes
Morris "Railroad Bill" Slater terrorized Alabama and Florida railroads in the 1890s, robbing freight trains and eluding posses across the pine belt. Digital Alabama holds that Bill buried portions of his takings in the corridor between Atmore and Bay Minette in Escambia County. He was killed in a shootout at Atmore in 1896. No authenticated cache has been linked to Slater, but the legend persists in south Alabama outlaw lore alongside Copeland and Mason tales.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
