Quitman Mountains Gold Occurrences — Hudspeth County

Gold Mining Site TX • Hudspeth County County
Description
The Quitman Mountains southwest of Sierra Blanca carry reported gold traces in lead-zinc-silver deposits — Hudspeth County's main mineral belt on the El Paso southern horizon.
Historical Notes
TSHA lists gold traces in the Quitman Mountains with Shafter, Van Horn, and Allamore occurrences. The Quitman range hosts the Bonanza and Alice Ray mines plus fluorspar operations at Eagle Mountain. APMEX and state geological summaries note Texas lacks major placer camps; West Texas gold is almost entirely lode byproduct from silver-lead-zinc mining shipped toward El Paso. Coordinates approximate the central Quitman Mountains in Hudspeth County.
