Port Mansfield Jetty Beach Access — 1554 Coast

Lost Treasure TX • Kenedy County County
Description
South Padre Island beach approach at Port Mansfield jetties (Beach Access 6 corridor) — modern gateway to the 1554 wreck country where Spanish coins still define the island's treasure-hunting reputation.
Historical Notes
Texas Standard describes reaching the cut from South Padre via State Park Road 100 to Beach Access 6, then driving north thirty miles of beach to the jetties — the heart of 1554 shipwreck country. Survivors of the 1554 disaster attempted a fatal overland march toward Mexico from this coast; Spanish salvage ships arrived within two months of the wrecking. Coordinates mark the Gulf-side jetty area where dredging first exposed the Santa Maria de Yciar coins in 1957.
