Pirate Bloody Tew Newport Fortune

Lost Treasure RI • Newport County County
Description
Newport legend that pirate Thomas "Bloody" Tew buried a fortune of about $200,000 in or near Newport — the Rhode Island Red Sea pirate's signature hoard tale.
Historical Notes
Thomas Tew lived in Newport with his family and sailed as a privateer before turning pirate in the 1690s. Compiled New England guides credit Tew with concealing roughly two hundred thousand dollars near Newport after his Red Sea prize. The tradition joins multiple Captain Kidd island caches across Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island pirate folklore.
