Piney Point Civil War Treasure

Lost Treasure TX • Harris County County
Description
Civil War legend of $18,000 buried in or near Piney Point in west Houston — never recovered according to regional treasure guides.
Historical Notes
Piney Point Village is an affluent enclave on Buffalo Bayou's south bank in west Houston, near Memorial Drive and the Energy Corridor. During the Civil War the Houston area was a Confederate supply and cotton-shipping center. The Rocker Box Harris County list cites $18,000 buried near Piney Point during the war. Variant traditions elsewhere in Texas use similar dollar figures for merchant strongboxes hidden before Union occupation. No primary document confirms the Piney Point burial. Coordinates mark the Piney Point / Buffalo Bayou corridor in west Houston.
