Pierre Rameau's Chats-Huants Cache — Pearl River Swamp

Lost Treasure LA • St. Tammany Parish County
Description
Legend of buccaneer Pierre Rameau and his Chats-Huants (Screech Owls) gang operating a Robbers' Roost on Honey Island up the Pearl River, burying much of their plunder in the swamp.
Historical Notes
As Jean Lafitte built Barataria on Grand Terre, Pierre Rameau gathered the lawless Chats-Huants on Honey Island in the Pearl River swamp — nearly forgotten cypress country ideal for concealing crime. Gumbo Ya-Ya records that much treasure was buried on Honey Island; hunters reportedly stumbled on an iron chest of 1827 Mexican coins worth about $1,000 before additional searches failed. The Chats-Huants were described as worse than the Baratarians — cutthroats with secret-society protection in New Orleans. Coordinates mark upper Honey Island / Pearl River swamp country.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
