Pedernales River Gillespie County Bluffs Cache — Gillespie County

Lost Treasure TX • Gillespie County County
Description
Gillespie County legend of outlaw loot buried in Pedernales River limestone bluffs — the drainage that anchored Fredericksburg's 1846 settlement four miles above the river.
Historical Notes
John O. Meusebach chose the Fredericksburg townsite where two streams met four miles above the Pedernales River. The Pedernales cuts through the central Hill Country from west of Fredericksburg toward the Johnson City and Stonewall country in Blanco County. Pedernales bluff-cache folklore appears throughout Hill Country treasure guides wherever Reconstruction-era banditry and open-range ranching overlapped. Related San Marcos-area entries document separate Hays County Pedernales variants southeast of Fredericksburg. Coordinates approximate the Pedernales River bluff country west of Fredericksburg in Gillespie County. Respect private property along the river.
