Description
East Austin community park established in 1931 and named for Mexican general Ignacio Zaragoza; center of Hispanic civic life for nearly a century.
Historical Notes
Created during segregation as a park serving Austin's Mexican American community. Annual Diez y Seis de Septiembre celebrations and neighborhood gatherings have anchored the park since the 1930s. City of Austin renovated facilities while preserving the park's cultural role in the Govalle/Ann Richards Congress Avenue corridor.
