Palmer Gulch Addie Camp Gold Boxes

Lost Treasure SD • Pennington County County
Description
Palmer Gulch legend of two heavy boxes of gold coin cached near Addie Camp after a vegetable-growing prospector changed dust for Deadwood coin — Frank Mills dreamed of split rocks exposing a wooden chest along the old Hill City–Keystone road.
Historical Notes
The U.S. Congressional Record of 1968 repeats the tale of boxes so heavy two men were needed to lift them from the wagon at Pactola. The miner supposedly reburied coin in Palmer Gulch; Uncle Bill Gordon thought the site lay east of the gulch along the Hill City–Keystone road. Addie Camp ghost-town country and Palmer Gulch remain active Black Hills treasure-hunting lore near the Centennial Trail.
