Paint Rock Spanish Mine Legend — Concho County

Lost Treasure TX • Concho County County
Description
Paint Rock on the Concho–Coleman county line — site of famous pictographs and folklore of Spanish prospectors hiding bullion in the bluffs above the Concho River.
Historical Notes
Paint Rock preserves hundreds of Native American pictographs on a cliff overlooking the Concho River. The site has drawn travelers since the Spanish era; regional lore layers Spanish mine and buried-bullion tales onto the landmark. The Concho River drains much of the San Angelo hinterland eastward. Treasure compilations tied to Central and West Texas often cite Spanish pack-train silver along the Concho breaks between Paint Rock and Eden. Paint Rock site is on private land with restricted access through scheduled tours. Coordinates approximate the Paint Rock crossing community.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
