Padre Island Civil War Cannon Doubloons — Kenedy County

Lost Treasure TX • Kenedy County County
Description
Kenedy County legend of four Civil War soldiers who found two cannons filled with doubloons and pieces of eight on Padre Island — then could not relocate them.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Kenedy County page states four Civil War soldiers found two cannons filled with doubloons and pieces of eight on Padre Island but could not find the cannons on a return trip. Kenedy County holds the undeveloped Padre Island National Seashore reach south of Corpus Christi. Cannon-filled-with-coin tales appear elsewhere in East Texas Neches folklore. This variant places the lost cannons on the barrier island offshore of Kenedy County north of the Brownsville coast. Coordinates approximate mid–south Padre Island offshore of Kenedy County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
