Packsaddle Mountain Pre-Revolution Spanish Gold Workings

Lost Treasure TX • Llano County County
Description
Tradition that Spaniards mined gold on Packsaddle Mountain before the Texas Revolution — part of the ridge's long prospecting history alongside Los Almagres silver lore.
Historical Notes
Wikipedia and the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce history note that Spaniards are thought to have mined Packsaddle Mountain for gold prior to the Texas Revolution, and that the landmark was later associated with Los Almagres and Jim Bowie's lost-mine traditions. Spanish diaries described Packsaddle's golden sunset light on expeditions sent after native reports of mineral wealth. Anglo treasure hunters in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries renewed digging across the ridge, including 1920s gold-prospecting campaigns with no lasting commercial result. Related gold_site entry "Packsaddle Mountain — Llano County Prospecting" documents recreational and historical gold interest. Private Packsaddle Ranch — no trespassing.
