Packsaddle Mountain 1920s Prospector Cache — Llano County

Lost Treasure TX • Llano County County
Description
Legend of a prospector's buried pay stash from the 1920s Packsaddle Mountain gold rush — when renewed Llano County mining excitement drew diggers back to the Spanish-era workings.
Historical Notes
Wikipedia and regional mining histories record that prospecting on Packsaddle Mountain renewed interest in gold mining in Llano County during the 1920s, though with no lasting commercial result. Texas Beyond History notes early-twentieth-century features including dynamite-fractured spoil and wire nails at ridge mine sites. Boom-and-bust folklore often imagines prospectors burying ore samples, dust, or camp payroll when remote diggings failed to pay. Related gold_site entries document the district's fine placer and lode traditions. Coordinates approximate 1920s diggings on the lower Packsaddle Mountain slopes along State Highway 71 five miles southwest of Kingsland. Private ranch — no trespassing.
