Historical Notes
Oxford is a Llano County community on the Llano River northeast of Mason toward the Kingsland country. Honey Creek rises northeast of Oxford (approx. 30°37' N, 98°40' W) and flows east to Lake LBJ — related entry "Honey Creek — Llano County" documents that tributary. Historian Herbert Bolton tied the historic 1756 Los Almagres silver diggings to the Honey Creek / Oxford area. The Rocker Box and regional compilations also describe the "Rangers Lost Gold Mine" near Oxford. Llano River gravel bars around Oxford see occasional hobby panning when flows are low.
