Old Squaw Umatilla Buried Gold

Lost Treasure OR • Umatilla County County
Description
Umatilla Reservation legend of an elderly woman confessing on her deathbed in 1915 that she buried significant gold near Pendleton two decades earlier — searchers found $1,100 but she died before revealing the rest.
Historical Notes
A March 1915 newspaper account relayed the dying woman's story on the Umatilla Reservation near Pendleton. Farmers and Indians searched Kirkpatrick farmland and found one can with eleven hundred dollars in gold; the woman insisted more remained. Legends of America pairs the tale with Stage Gulch holdup loot between Pendleton and Stanfield.
