Description
Second Oatmeal schoolhouse erected 1869 with a state historical marker; first school built 1858, still used as a church in 1990.
Historical Notes
Oatmeal's first schoolhouse was built in 1858. The 1869 building carries a Texas historical marker and remained in use as a church building decades later. Early Burnet County education was conducted under shade trees and in log buildings while Indians still threatened frontier classrooms; Oatmeal survived as one of the county's oldest continuous school sites.
