Description
Baptist church on Oatmeal Creek organized 1854; anchored the second-oldest town in Burnet County.
Historical Notes
Oatmeal, Burnet County's second-oldest town, had a post office by 1853 and a schoolhouse by 1858. The Handbook of Texas lists a Baptist church on Oatmeal Creek among the county's earliest congregations. The 1869 schoolhouse with a state historical marker still served as a church in 1990. Oatmeal remains an active Hill Country community center.
