Oak Hill Plantation Confederate Hoard

Lost Treasure VA • Pittsylvania County County
Description
Pittsylvania County legend of Confederate officials concealing treasury assets near Oak Hill Plantation southwest of Danville during the April 1865 government flight.
Historical Notes
Richmond Times-Dispatch treasure coverage lists Oak Hill Plantation — main house built 1823 — among Danville-area sites in Confederate gold lore alongside Green Hill Cemetery. Jefferson Davis spent only days in Danville before continuing south. Folklore imagines plantation outbuildings and river bluffs as emergency vaults when rail cars could not carry everything. Pittsylvania's tobacco country and rail links to North Carolina anchor the last-capital treasure geography.
