Nueces River Uvalde Balcones Ford Payroll — Uvalde County

Lost Treasure TX • Uvalde County County
Description
Uvalde legend of a ranch or trail payroll cached at a Balcones Escarpment ford where the Nueces River descends from the Edwards Plateau toward the Winter Garden plain.
Historical Notes
After the West Fork joins in western Uvalde County, the Nueces descends through the Balcones Escarpment toward the Gulf Coastal Plain. Uvalde, the second largest town in the watershed, developed as a Southern Pacific rail hub between San Antonio and the Rio Grande. River-ford payroll caches are cataloged throughout South Texas along the Nueces, Frio, and Sabinal systems. Related entry: "Uvalde Southern Pacific Railroad Payroll — Uvalde County" documents a separate rail-town variant. Coordinates approximate a Nueces River ford in Uvalde County below the escarpment.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
