Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Nueces County page states that General Santa Anna is said to have buried a great amount of money on or near the Nueces River. The Trans-Nueces between the Nueces and the Rio Grande was disputed territory from the Texas Revolution until the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. Santa Anna campaign folklore clusters at border crossings and retreat routes. This entry marks the middle Nueces reach in Dimmit County; related entries document separate variants at Rock Crossing and the river mouth.
