Nueces River Live Oak Confluence Chest — Live Oak County

Lost Treasure TX • Live Oak County County
Description
Live Oak County legend of a chest of treasure buried on or near the Nueces River in the reach where the stream turns southeast toward the Gulf.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Live Oak County page states that a chest of treasure is supposedly buried on or near the Nueces River. Joaquín de Orobio y Basterra reached the lower Nueces in 1747 and recognized it as an extension of the river crossed farther upstream on the Old San Antonio Road. Choke Canyon Reservoir later impounded the Frio four miles west of Three Rivers, altering the middle basin but preserving river-corridor folklore. Related entry: "Frio River Three Rivers Aztec Treasure — Live Oak County" documents a separate confluence tale. Coordinates approximate the middle Nueces River in Live Oak County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
