New Braunfels Comal River Confederate Specie

Lost Treasure TX • Comal County County
Description
New Braunfels legend of Confederate specie and merchant strongboxes hidden along the Comal River and Guadalupe — the German-founded town north of San Marcos on the Austin–San Antonio corridor.
Historical Notes
New Braunfels was founded in 1845 by German settlers of the Adelsverein. The Comal River and Comal Springs powered mills and made the town a commercial center between San Antonio and Austin. Civil War treasure tradition holds that merchants buried specie when Union threats and Reconstruction chaos loomed along the corridor. New Braunfels preserves German vernacular architecture around the plaza and mill races. Coordinates mark downtown New Braunfels at the Comal–Guadalupe confluence, northeast of San Marcos.
