Nevada State Prison Stagecoach Gold

Lost Treasure NV • Carson City County
Description
Comstock-era legend of outlaw Manuel Gonzales burying a 300-pound Wells Fargo strongbox from a Virginia City–Carson City stage robbery — visible from his prison cell but never recovered after his release and death.
Historical Notes
Bandits held up a stage near Empire City carrying bullion to the Carson City Mint; three robbers died in the posse fight and Gonzales was captured without the gold. Gonzales served eight years at the Nevada Territorial Prison, telling inmates he could see the burial mound from his window. Treasure hunters believe the cache lies near the old Nevada State Prison grounds east of Carson City.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
