Mission San Ildefonso (San Xavier) Treasure Legend

Lost Treasure TX • Milam County County
Description
San Xavier mission legend of buried church goods at San Ildefonso — the second of three San Gabriel River missions abandoned amid Apache warfare.
Historical Notes
San Ildefonso was one of three San Xavier missions on the San Gabriel River (1746–1755). The complex suffered from inadequate military protection, seminomadic Indian departures, and official hostility from the Texas governor. When the missions relocated briefly to the Guadalupe River in 1756–1758, folklore holds that friars concealed mission property rather than risk transport through Apache country. Coordinates approximate the San Xavier mission district on the San Gabriel River in Milam County.
