Mission San Cristóbal Treasure Legend — Redford

Lost Treasure TX • Presidio County County
Description
La Junta mission legend of buried church goods at San Cristóbal near Redford, where Franciscans evangelized Big Bend farmers from 1715 until Apache raids ended the Texas-side missions around 1795.
Historical Notes
San Cristóbal was re-established in 1715 near present Redford in Presidio County. It operated intermittently through Indian hostilities until the late eighteenth century, when all Texas-side La Junta missions ceased functioning. A Fort Leaton state historical marker near Presidio mentions San Cristóbal alongside other La Junta missions. Treasure lore follows the standard pattern of hurried burial of mission plate before Apache strikes. Coordinates approximate Redford on the Rio Grande in southern Presidio County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
