Mission San Antonio de Valero (Alamo) Treasury Legend

Lost Treasure TX • Bexar County County
Description
San Antonio legend of mission church plate and secularization valuables hidden when San Antonio de Valero closed in 1793 and later became the Alamo.
Historical Notes
San Antonio de Valero was founded May 1, 1718, as the first San Antonio mission. Secularized in 1793, its buildings later housed the Alamo garrison. The stone church (Alamo Shrine) was begun in the 1750s. Secularization transferred mission communal property to private hands — a process that generated persistent folklore of friars burying sacramental silver and mission funds rather than surrendering them to civil authorities. The 1836 battle added later military-cache tales. Coordinates mark the Alamo in downtown San Antonio.
