Mission Nuestra Señora del Rosario Treasure Legend — Goliad

Lost Treasure TX • Goliad County County
Description
Goliad legend of Karankawa mission offerings and church goods buried near Nuestra Señora del Rosario — founded in 1754 across the river from Espíritu Santo.
Historical Notes
Nuestra Señora del Rosario was established in 1754 for Karankawa peoples across the San Antonio River from Espíritu Santo. It was abandoned in 1781, reactivated in 1789 with a looser seminomadic model, and closed in 1805 when survivors transferred to Refugio. Rosario was materially sound but struggled with Karankawa mobility. Folklore describes sacramental objects buried when the mission closed and Karankawa converts returned to coastal lifeways. Coordinates approximate the Rosario mission site near Goliad State Park.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
